Topic – Walmart: Good or Bad for America?

Introduction –  Walmart is the #1 Corporation in the United States for several years in a row. A once small company created in Arkansas, many in the United States believe that the retail giant is an inspiration and a great model of business success. Others believe that Walmart’s growth and business practices have actually hurt business in the U.S.

Directions – Using a minimum of three (3) sources (books, textbooks, magazine/online articles, scholarly journals, etc.) and economic concepts learned in class to this point, describe ways in which the Walmart Superstore Chain is both helping and hurting the American economy. This information must be fact-based and the research used must be from your sources. After providing information on how Walmart has both helped and hurt the American economy, you will be asked to choose a side. After the research you have done on this topic, what do YOU think? Overall, has Walmart done more good or bad for the economy? Be sure to support your answer!

Body Paragraph 3: After doing your research, be sure to provide your opinion with supporting evidence, as to whether or not YOU believe Walmart is good or bad for the American economy.

Key Terms:
Manufacturer: A person or company that makes goods for sale especially by means of a large-scale industrial operation.

Retailer: One who sells goods or commodities directly to consumers. These items are purchased from the manufacturer or wholesaler and sold to consumers at (usually) discounted prices.
