World Music

Each student has the option to write a seven-page paper pertaining to the topic of world music or ethnomusicology. The paper must be 12pt. Times New Roman, double-spaced, with 1” margins. The content of the paper can relate to a topic covered in class or a topic of your choice. If you are wondering about a topic, ask the instructor

You must use at least two library sources (e.g., books, chapters, journal articles). You may also use online sources as well as music sources (e.g., songs, albums, music videos, etc.). All of your sources must be included in a bibliography page at the end of your paper. This does not count as part of the seven pages. You may use any style format you are most comfortable with when citing your sources: MLA, APA, Chicago, Turabian. Just make sure that you are consistent.

Papers will be graded on:

• Organization (are ideas grouped in a way that flows logically?)
• Topic/Argument (was the topic approved for class, and does the paper stick to it?)
• Support (does the paper contain interesting and comprehensive information on the topic? Are the writer’s opinions backed by facts?)
• Content /Sources (does the paper meet the length, format, and research requirements?)
• Style (does the paper use a variety of sentence structures and cohesive devices?)
• Grammar/Spelling (is the paper free from spelling and grammar errors?)
