Work Summaries and Critical Self-Evaluation

WORK SUMMARIES – These should provide a succinct factual account of the major pieces of work undertaken (and should include not just case work, but any group work or one-off significant pieces of work). Work summaries are descriptive and so are not the section of the Portfolio where you write about meeting the PCF. You will need to include a work summary for any piece of practice that you intend to analyse and appraise in your Critical Self Evaluation. Remember, this section must not include any names of service users/carers, agencies or professionals. (2000 words maximum). Remember, this section of the Portfolio must be completely anonymised!

* CRITICAL SELF-EVALUATION – This section will form the largest part of your Portfolio. You are required to evaluate your own learning under each of the 9 domains of the PCF, integrating values and ethics throughout. Do not write in essay format, but do lay out your self-evaluation clearly, with each of the 9 domains as a heading . You will need to write under each of the 9 domains, showing how you met the PCF during your placement. You should cite TWO examples from your practice for each domain (This does not mean you need to undertake 18 pieces of work, as one piece of work may illustrate your skills and abilities to meet several domains. You should cross-reference with other sections of the Portfolio and make reference to theory and legislation, as well as to wider reading where relevant. You need to show your progress over time. You need to look critically at your practice, considering how you could have done things differently, where appropriate. You should make explicit reference to the SWE Professional Standards plus the PCF Level Guidance. There should have been a descriptive Work Summary for any case or other piece of work you appraise in your Critical Self Evaluation. Remember, this section must not include any names of service users/carers, agencies or professionals (3,500 – 4,500 words maximum). Remember, this section of the Portfolio must be completely anonymised!
