What’s in a Dream

To assist with this assignment, I would suggest keeping a dream journal for at least a couple of days. Every morning when you wake up, immediately write as much as you can remember from any dream(s) you can still recall. Note, you do not need to turn in this dream journal. You’ll only keep a journal to assist you in generating a good dream example for the exercise.
1. Include a detailed description of one particular dream. If you were unable to recall any of your dreams across the last several nights using the dream journal, please either report a dream that you remember experiencing sometime in your past or talk with a roommate/friend and ask them to report a dream they recently experienced (if you do so, please inform your source of what this project entails and that you will be submitting their dream as part of a project for this course)!
2. Analyze your dream according to the psychoanalytic perspective. Make sure to differentiate between the manifest and latent content of your dream.
3. Analyze your dream according to the Activation-Information Mode Model (AIM). Make sure to use specific connections to demonstrate your understanding of this perspective.
4. Use the “poor man’s” technique to attempt to lucid dream for at least 5 days in a row. The poor man’s technique requires you to pick an object on your body that you wear every day. Every time you see the object you must ask yourself “am I asleep or am I dreaming?” Do this repeatedly throughout the day and also make sure to do this several times right before you go to bed each night. For this portion of the assignment provide an outline of what you specifically did to try and induce lucid dreaming as well as your results from the experience.
