Welfare States

The appearance of the welfare states after 1945

1. WHY? – What causes the appearance of the welfare state after 1945 (describe the relationship of cause and effect)
2. Make a hypothesis* (it can be an unbelievable hypothesis also! Something that hasn’t been studied before, something that is not simple to “solve”, something that for example is: Assuming that high educated people caused the appearance of the welfare state by voting for the left. Well, that is the hypothetical framework, and you need to prove it by A+B.
3. Take at least 10 countries (not a lot of countries are welfare state)
4. Make a meta-analysis based on the example of hypothesis I gave above by finding education level’s databases of the 10 welfare-state countries and began to compare one to each other according to the hypothesis you chose. (THAT WAS JUST AN EXAMPLE, FEEL FREE TO CHOSE ANOTHER HYPOTHESIS)
5. Then take at least 3 theories (about the welfare state theory of Andersen, the welfare state theory of Offe and the theory of Keynes) and explain how each of the theorist would have “solved” this hypothesis according to their interpretation of political economy.

STRUCTURE OF THE PAPER/

1. Introduction
2. Hypothetical framework (Hypothesis based on a certain base of relationship of cause and effect* – what is causing what?)
3. Describe methodology – what I am going to prove? How I am going to prove it?
4. In the introduction, you need to say that, for example: (…) Previous researches were focused on these aspects of the subject, but this seminar paper will be focus on other aspects and parts of the subject. (That haven’t necessarily been studied before.) So in other words, you don’t need to focus only on the previous researches but precisely based yourself on your own research (if I can say so) in order to make your own theoretical framework
5. The paper need to be divided in 3 separate sections (except the introduction and the conclusion)
6. Present datasets and references (author, date and page)
7. DON’T FORGET TO QUOTE ALL ALONG THE PAPER ESPECIALLY THE THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK PARTS OF IT.
8. THE PAPER SHOULD NOT BE DESCRIPTIVE BUT MORE ANALYTICAL
