Theory Analysis

Assignment Instructions:

There are various methods used to evaluate a theory. One method of synthesized theory analysis includes the components of Theory Description, Theory Analysis, and Theory Evaluation. To determine the value, worth, and significance of a theory, the entire theory must be evaluated.

Assignment Criteria:

• Katharine Kolcaba’s Comfort Theory
• Identify and describe the functional components of Theory Description and include:
  1. Describe the purpose of the theory (descriptive, explain, predictive etc.).
  2. Explain the scope of the theory (middle, interdisciplinary).
  3. Identify the major concepts and major propositions.
  4. Explain the major assumptions.
• Identify and describe the functional components of Theory Analysis and include:
  1. Describe the theoretical and operation definitions.
  2. Identify and explain the linkages.
  3. Analyze the logical organization of the theory.
  4. Summarize the model/diagram.
  5. Identify the stated outcomes or consequences.
• Identify and describe the functional components of Theory Evaluation and include;
  1. Discuss how the theory is congruent with nursing standards and/or nursing interventions.
  2. Describe how the theory would be useful to the advanced practice nurse.
  3. Describe validity, relevance, and significance of the theory.
  4. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses related to the implementation of the theory.
• Conclude with a statement related to how the theory contributes to the science of nursing.
• The scholarly paper should be written clearly and concisely providing comprehensive details about the subject or topic of discussion.
• When developing the scholarly APA paper, begin with an introductory paragraph which includes the purpose statement; that is supported by literature or evidence.
  1. Remember APA does not use the title “Introduction.”
  2. The body of the paper should include level headings to keep the readers focused on the written content.
  3. A conclusion is important to summarize the main points of the paper.
  4. Finalize the assignment or paper with the reference page(s). This will be the last step to the assignment/paper.
