Theories in Psychology

All assignments MUST be typed, double-spaced, in APA style, and must be written at graduate level English.

You must integrate the material presented in the text. In addition to the text, you are required to use a minimum of three (3), current, evidence-based research articles to complete this assignment. Use articles from the university Virtual Library as well as online or hard copy research relative to the field of Geropsychology.

Your responses must reflect your own understanding of the text material and research in direct and specific context to the assignment. Cite your work according to APA format. Legal and ethical issues must be addressed when relevant.

Your assignment should be 8-9 pages total plus a title and reference page.

1. Why theories of aging are important to the field of professional psychology?
2. In consideration of the theories you learned about in the course readings, which one do you feel is most appropriate to the field of professional psychology & why?
3. Which physical age-related changes would you say have the most significant impact on the mental health of the older adult? Justify your answer.
4. Discuss at least two changes in the older adult’s family structure that occur as the result of, or are complicated by ageing.
5. Discuss the pros and cons of retirement from the perspective of working with an older adult who is having difficulty deciding which course of action to take (retire vs. remaining in the workforce).
6. Describe how culture, ethnicity and/or sexual minority status can impact positive ageing. How can the professional psychologist help?
7. Explore the role of individual differences in ageing. Does personality truly play a role in successful ageing?
8. Compare and contrast two neurocognitive disorders with an emphasis on the role of professional psychology in the treatment of these disorders. Incorporate psychopharmacology and counselling techniques, as applicable.
