Terrorists and Crime

Each paper should be between 3-5 pages in length, single-spaced, with your name in the upper right-hand corner of the first page. No title page; use 12-point font with1-inch margins.

Summarize the key points of each of the assigned readings for each paper. What argument is the author making, and what evidence is offered in support?

This should make up 3/4 of each paper.

For the final quarter of the paper, describe your thoughts on the subject. Is the material surprising to you?

Does it make sense? Is it ridiculous or unsupported by evidence, etc., etc.?

First, you must read and summarize all of the articles in each module, not just pick one article to focus on. Each module has a series of articles on either one specific topic or on two or three very closely related and overlapping topics. For example, Module 1 has its focus on “radicalization.” Nobody just randomly wakes up one morning and decides to become a militant jihadist or a white supremacist domestic terrorist or an abortion clinic bomber, they go through a process that takes them to that point and these articles cover some of the latest attempts to understand that process…

My advice on how to write the papers is this: As you finish one article, type up about half of a page’s worth of summary, or outline, or bullet points, or just general notes, so that when you finish the last article you’ve got all of the information you need for the paper already down.

Topics of Module 3 below

1-Thinking in Militant Extremism
2-Terrorists and Crime
3-Prison Radicalization in the US
4-Radicalization in Prison the French Case
5-Prisoner Radicalization
6-Leader-Follower Interactions and Radicalization
