SPIRITUAL INTEGRATION VIDEO BLOG ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
Examining your personal and spiritual beliefs is necessary throughout your career as a counselor. The purpose of self-reflection is to help counselors gain an understanding of their thoughts, feelings, emotions, and actions so that they do not impose their beliefs on clients. This assignment will help you gain insight into your beliefs and to help to identify alliance or conflict with the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors (2022) and ACA Code of Ethics (2014). Learning how to work through any conflict because of your beliefs is important not to harm your client or violate ethical standards. This assignment allows you to examine and apply steps to address potential conflicts.
INSTRUCTIONS
After reading the assigned articles by Smith et al., (2019) and Matise et al., (2018), you will complete a self-reflective video blog evaluating the interaction between your personal or spiritual beliefs and the 6 ethical principles as depicted in the ACA Code of Ethics (2014): autonomy, beneficence, justice, nonmaleficence, fidelity, and veracity.
Step 1: The video blog should be 5-6 minutes in length and include four scholarly references written in APA format (no title page or abstract needed). The 4 required references are: Smith et al. (2019), Matise et al. (2018), ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors (2022), and ACA Code of Ethics (2014).

This is a self-reflective video blog and should be recorded in first person. You are expected to reflect on your process during this course. While this is a personal and reflective assignment, it is a formal submission. Therefore, please make sure that your style remains professional, and your video is recorded in a professional setting.

Step 2: In your video, address the following points in order:

1. In your opening statement, state in one sentence: “I have read the Smith et al., (2019) and Matise et al., (2018), articles in their entirety.”
2. Identify one ethical principle or standard from the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors (2022) or ACA Code of Ethics (2014) that is in harmony with your personal and/or spiritual beliefs.

Briefly state what the harmony between the principle or standard and your personal/spiritual beliefs look like. Do not choose an obvious principle or standard or one that was in complete harmony with your personal/spiritual beliefs prior to taking this course. You must choose a principle or standard that was not in harmony until you progressed in this course or after you read the required articles.

3. Next, briefly explain how the principle or standard and your personal/spiritual beliefs came into harmony. Describe what this process was like for you. What challenges or conflicts did you face when trying to integrate or reconcile the principle or standard and your personal/spiritual beliefs? How did the required articles impact your thinking?
4. Then, identify one ethical standard from the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors (2022) or ACA Code of Ethics (2014) that currently remains in conflict with your personal and/or spiritual beliefs. Briefly describe the conflict that you still have to work through.
5. Finally, briefly state the action you will take to work through the identified conflict now that you have read the required articles. Describe the process for implementing the action. Provide citations from scholarly literature to support your statements. It is not sufficient to state that you will use the ethical decision-making model or process here (Forester-Miller & Davis, 2016).

Step 3: When you have completed your video, save it to your device. Then upload your video to Kaltura. Make sure your video is marked Unlisted (not Private) and save it. Copy the share link (URL).

Step 4: On a Microsoft Word document, type your name in the header. Paste the Kaltura video link on the document and press enter to make the link a live hyperlink. The link should turn blue. Then add your Reference section (with a heading and the references in APA format) directly under the link.

Step 5: Save your document as a 1-page Microsoft Word document under your name and assignment title (Example: Doe_J_Spiritual Integration Video Blog). Submit your 1-page Microsoft Word document via the assignment submission link in Canvas.
