There is no feedback for draft assignments, however you are welcome to provide GR with
a half page bullet point of your essay plan and do so by E mail.
Essay advice: Refer to marking criteria for assignment in the programme handbook to understand what we are looking for at each grade level. Make sure that you understand the question – Plan your work in terms of what you will need to research and when you need access to such material. Send a bullet point structure (no more than half a page) to check that you are on the right lines. Make sure that you are still answering the question as you are
writing your answer.

The following are not included in word counts:
   Reference lists/Bibliographies and Question Titles

Appendices/Footnotes- provided these have been used only when necessary. If
appendices or footnotes are used excessively, or contain material which should clearly be
included in the main body of the essay/report, it is at the markers’ discretion to include
these in the word count.
Tables/Graphs- provided these have been imported from elsewhere (correctly referenced)
and not produced by the student.

The essay structure is the same as any other: an Introduction, outlining the issue to be explored; then the main body, where for this assignment students are expected to review the arguments for and against Crane’s conclusion that corporations can be ‘morally’ responsible, just like they can be for ‘social’ responsibility. This is called ‘collective responsibility. The problem arises because in moral philosophy only the individual human person can be ‘morally responsible’ as a moral agent for their actions, so that’s ‘individual responsibilty’.

Then in the Conclusion, try to suggest which of the arguments that you have discussed are persuasive for you. There is no right/wrong answer, only which you believe is the most convincing argument.

I don’t ‘count’ how many references people use, it is more important to present a quality discussion/argument. I have seen assignments with three pages of references, but a very poor essay! So having lots of references is no guarantee that the student has read them all and used them effectively.
I have put reading materials in Canvas, although you dont have to use them all, you may be able to find others that are just as useful or even better.

I hope that helps a bit. Just let me know if I can help with any other queries.
I don’t know enough about the subject. However, what I do know is that this is an ongoing debate on the subject and there are those who feel strongly about companies having moral responsibilities towards society and some believe that morality is a human attribute. Companies are legal entities and don’t have moral obligations. Each side has their argument.
I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer. I think that one should remember that companies are setup to fulfill specific goals. They are not setup to be good or bad. They exist to fulfill very specific goals which finally boils down to “maximize shareholder wealth” and they have to do that within the confines of the law. Morality and moral obligations stem from personal beliefs, culture, religion, etc.. These norms can differ in different geographies and in different cultures and what might be cosodered moral in one culture may not be in another.

You need to research the topic and find arguments that support each side of the debate. Then finally give your opinion on the issue. As I said there is not right or wrong answer. Your effort will probably be judged based on how well you researched the topic and on how well you argue for the side you think is right and the reasoning / justification you provide to support your beliefs.
