Compare and contrast Christianity and Islam in terms of the following characteristics:

1. Notion of God

2. Notion of the prophets.

3. Violence in Scripture.

4. Violence in practice.

5. Roles and treatment of women in scripture and in practice.

Think of this as a single brief essay. Ask yourself, to what degree are these two lines of the Abrahamic heritage suited to the modern world? Then fit the above characteristics into your response.

Persuasive Writing Paper (30 points): Write a persuasive paper on one of the seven major world religions. This paper should be at least 1,700 words (MLA format). Approximately 5 typed pages double spaced; 1 inch margins; size 12 font Times Roman. This paper must utilize both required class text books, as each text book should be quoted at least 2 times within the paper.

8 pts- Introduction: Identify the founder of the religion, the origin of the worldview, and the beliefs and practices

3 pts- “How did you get here?” (Origin of humanity/man- Is there a Creator/Designer?)

3 pts- “Why are you  here?” (Purpose for humanity- What is the reason/meaning for my existence?)

3 pts- “What happens when you die?” (Eternity- Is there an afterlife?)

3 pts- “Why is there evil in this world?” (Pain and Suffering- Where does evil come from and how does one distinguish between good and evil?)

5 pts- Conclusion: Provide and brief synopsis of the pros (strengths) and cons (weaknesses) of the religion.

5 pts- Grammar and Format: Grammatical execution and formatting according with MLA standards
