Program Models

For this assignment, incorporate the following into a paper describing early care programs: Explore early childcare program models in your community or neighboring community. (If all of the required program types are not available in your community you may access the information on-line.) Report on the different types by describing the major characteristics of each type of program. Be sure to include the following models in your paper: Public and private kindergartens, preschools, and child development programs Early Head Start, Head Start, and Even Start Private for-profit child care centers Faith-based child care centers Laboratory schools Corporate sponsored child care Family child care Programs meeting children’s special needs (i.e. developmental delays, homelessness, at-risk for abuse or neglect) For each of the eight kinds of programs listed above:

Describe the curriculum used in the program. What kinds of assessments are implemented?

Is there readily available information on how the assessments are used?

Describe how child development theory applies to each program model. Are the professional ethics as outlined by NAEYC obvious in the design and implementation of each program?

Do you think these programs exemplify their matching theories and model professional ethics successfully?

Why or why not? Assemble additional information that will help you determine what other types of child care services are needed now and in the future.
