Assignment : Philosophy of Education Paper
Your culminating project will be a final paper (5-10 pages) in which you bring together your reflections on the school grade principles, your reflections on your own identity through which you meet your students and do your teaching work, and the historical events and philosophical forces that have shaped the current schooling contexts in which we work.
Your personal education philosophy explains the beliefs and ideas that underlie your thinking and regulate your actions.
Specifically drawing on what you’ve learned in the course and citing multiple texts from the course, your APA-style paper should reflect on how you, as a teacher, will
• Gather and use trustworthy evidence to support student learning and to inform your own professional practice through reflection in action and reflection on action. (Reflection)
• Utilize knowledge of the diverse and intersecting aspects of human identity to support learner growth and development and enact culturally responsive and sustaining educational practices with diverse learners in diverse cultural and socioeconomic community contexts. 1. Who are you as a student and a teacher? How have you come to know what you know about education and schooling? In what ways have your cultural identities and social experiences shaped your understanding of education and schooling? (You may include segments from your CIAP for this). (this will be attached)
2. What are the challenges of American Education today and how would you compare it globally?
3. What historical philosophies, ideas, and theories of education that we learned about in this course (at least 3 from our course and one additional that you want to share) have truly impacted the way you think about education (You may use the quotes you selected that resonated with you and were referenced in your journals). What action steps will you take to bring these philosophies to life in your practice? ( **you can find this in the attachment called joournals) #reflections
4. What insights did you gain from each of the class debates ? (topics were the following:
   Should schools include Character Education? What is the Character we are looking to support? and if yes, how? How has technology impacted our children’s character development?
   How should Public Schools accommodate religion? Is it a breach of separation of church/state law as per the First Amendment?
   Should Multiculturalism permeate the curriculum? Are there gaps in access to free and appropriate public education for all? Can schools close the achievement and/or opportunity gaps between students from different ethnic and racial backgrounds? How can technology help support students from different backgrounds?
   Should the curriculum be standardized for all children? Do teachers have a right to address issues in the curriculum that bother them? What should our schools be teaching? Should we be focusing on technology more?
   Is Inclusion for all Desirable? What are the possibilities for schools to respond to the individual needs of each child? Can technology be helpful? How can it be a challenge as well?)
5. How will you ensure that you will use technology to support your efforts in education without allowing it to hinder your ability to think independently, engage meaningfully, and develop essential interpersonal skills that is so necessary for a teacher? How will you use it to empower each of your students and yet, support them in developing their own unique voice, help them to think independently, engage meaningfully, and develop essential interpersonal skills as a student?
