Discuss how developments in management have influenced approaches used by management today to achieve results and motivate the workforce.

Scenario:
Tesco leaders need to be inspirational, creative and innovative, ready to embrace change and with a long-term vision for achievement. Effective leaders manage by example and in doing so, develop their teams. Tesco encourages all its managers to lead by example. It requires leaders who can motivate, problem solve and build great teams. Tesco employs people in a wide range of roles and provides a career structure which allows employees to progress through the organization. Tesco’s process of 360-degree feedback allows its employees to reflect on their own progress and improve. Even if someone starts as working in store filling shelves they can progress through the organization into positions of authority and responsibility (adapted from businesscasestudies.co.uk, 2014).

Research the different leadership styles within the Tesco’s organisation. Identify 3 different styles and compare their effectiveness at achieving the organization’s goals. (2.1)
Evaluate the different approaches used by Tesco’s competitors and compare their effectiveness against Tesco. (2.3)
Explain how the developments in management support and underpin Tesco management today.(2.2)
Task 2 (LO 3 AC3.1,AC 3.2 and AC3.3)

Motivation is used by leaders to improve performance and productivity in the workplace.

From the leadership styles identified in task one. Compare the different motivation techniques used by Tesco’s leadership and how they respond to the changing shopping trends.(3.1, 3.2)
Compare and contrast four different motivation techniques and using one of the motivation techniques, evaluate the benefits to both the employees and Tesco. (3.3)
Task 3 (LO 4 AC4.1,AC 4.2 and AC4.3)

An effective team is one that achieves its tasks and satisfies its members. You have been recruited as a Manager at Tesco. You will be required to manage groups and develop your team.
