One System with Multiple Parts

• With your understanding of your peers’ targeted advanced practice role, respond to 2 of their posts – expanding the discussion with your thoughts about how they describe they will be able to impact an identified health system problem.
Responses need to address all components of the question, demonstrate critical thinking and analysis, and include peer-reviewed journal evidence to support the student’s position. Word count between 150 to 250 words or more.
Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with in-text citations and corresponding references in APA format.
(My background: I am a Registered nurse focusing on Masters on Family Nurse Practitioner.)
I am attaching the resource we were given to read.
The original question for the class was : In your future advanced practice role, you will be managing integral processes in the health care system.
With an understanding of Systems Theory, describe how you will be able to impact an identified system problem in the health care system from your soon-to-be advanced practice registered nurse role.
Following, the post of 2 of my peers:

The Health Care System- One System with Multiple Parts
The systems theory in healthcare means that we examine each error as well as all of the processes surrounding that error that failed allowing it to occur. Next, we identify what systems could be put into place to prevent the incident from happening again. We will never be able to remove the human component from healthcare nor do we want to. However, humans make mistakes, but if there are proper systems in place then the errors should be prevented (Anderson, 2016).
As an advanced practice certified nurse, specifically an adult gerontology acute care NP (AGACNP), I want to help participate in systems that prevent patient errors as well as be a leader in putting systems in place that will prevent harm from coming to patients. An example of these systems are alerts on patients records that notify of allergies to related antibiotics and prevent orders from being placed until clarification about the reaction has been made. As an AGACNP, I will also participate in giving orders to other nurses. If mistakes are made, I want to help to ensure that retaliation does not occur, but that education and better systems are put in to place so that the mistake does not happen again. I feel that being an AGACNP will give me a better perspective to help put in new systems for preventing errors as I have worked as a bedside nurse and will be working as a provider which will allow me to see multiple sides of how the system put in place will work and affect those using it. AGACNPs, or any NPs for that matter, bring more to the table than just being health care providers. They are teachers and leaders. They advocate for health care policy at multiple levels to help ensure that the specialized standards are upheld (American association of nurse practitioners, n.d.).

The healthcare system is influenced by several factors. Some of these factors include policies, availability of resources and current health challenges. One of the biggest issues in healthcare during the present times is the insufficiency in primary care providers. The Health Resources and Services Administration projects that the current growth in number of nurse practitioners can reduce the shortage of 20,400 full-time providers in 2025 to 6,400 clinicians (Spetz & Muench, 2018).
This issue is a good example of the Systems Theory. This theory explains the interrelation between the parts of a whole entity (Anderson, 2016). I have had first hand experiences in my community where patients returned to the acute setting due to a lack of follow-up with a provider after hospitalization. The knee jerk reaction that I often heard from hospital personnel is that the patient had poor compliance to treatment. However, after further investigation, we learned that most of these patients had a lack of access to primary care services. The patient’s readmission was due to a failure in continuity of care. Using the Systems Theory, we are able to identify other factors that lead to rehospitalization. The health of an individual not only relies on the quality of care given in the hospital. Post-hospitalization care is just as important. As a future Family Nurse Practitioner, I recognize the value of preventive medicine through primary care services. FNPs are poised to fill the gaps in the primary care crisis. Having additional providers would mean improved access to care for many individuals. This access can be used to prevent and manage illnesses in my community. Additionally, we can reduce hospital readmissions that are costly inconveniences for individuals and health organizations.
