propose and develop an implementation plan for evidence-based nursing strategies to address the issue you identified in Section I.  You will identify a change theory to develop the implementation plan. The strategy proposed will be informed by healthcare policy and healthcare economics. Social justice and concepts from ethics should provide the lens through which you view needed change and the strategies to facilitate the change.

Proposed Change

• Evidence-based recommendations for change. The strategies should address at least 2 system levels on which change needs to take place; i.e., individual, institutional, healthcare policy (local, national, or global)

Supporting Rationale for the Proposed change 

Do not skimp on this section. The most important part of any change is a proposed idea with strong rationale.

• Include a discussion of significance to nursing and nursing role

You should address how the change you are proposing relates to the goal of nursing; you might reference the Social Policy Statement, The Goals of Nursing, Scope and Standards of Practice, The Code of Ethics.

• Each proposed change should be viewed through the lens of social justice.

This means social justice should be included in the discussion of the rationale for the proposed change—be sure and include a definition of what you mean by social justice

• Each change should be supported by a discussion of the implications for: policy, economic, legal, and ethical concerns and consequences
• Are there legal concerns or does the proposed change relate to some existing law that may need to be changed or altered—are you incorporating some law as a mechanism to support the change?
• Is this a policy change at the institutional, state, or federal level? Does this change reflect the healthcare goals of Health People 2020 or other national or local healthcare initiatives?
• Is the proposed change cost-effective or does it require some targeted funding and where might you obtain funding?
• Are there ethical or social justice concerns with the proposed changes—will some groups incur benefits others will not—explain?

Implementing the Change

• Select a change theory and use it as a framework to explain each of the steps you will

take to implement the change(s) you recommend.

Change theories have recommended steps or phases for implementing change. Include a rationale for your choice of a change theory and elaborate on how you will go about implanting each of the steps. You may want to select different change theories based on the system level at which you are proposing change.

• Strategies, or steps recommend by the change theory, should include a discussion of strengths and potential barriers

Strengths and limitations or potential barriers are a fact of change—what are they and how important are they to moving the change

• Strategies, or steps recommend by the change theory, should be supported by evidence, logic, and a reflection on feasibility

Feasibility is an enormously important factor—keep this in mind when you are determining the changes you wish to propose; make sure your plan for change and associated strategies are realistic

• Evaluation Plan

How will you measure the effectiveness of your plan; include measurable outcomes

Conclusion

• Conclusion should include a discussion of future actions needed to address the concern
