Music Performance Concert Review

There are two categories of lists provided below:

  1. Approved Classical Music Performance Videos (List 1)
    1. The piece performed on the video is your focus for the Pre-Concert Report Form.
      1. If you wish to attend a live performance, send your instructor the date, ensemble performing, and complete program (list of all pieces on the program and the name of the composer for each work).
    1. NOTE: If the piece has multiple movements, you must select and identify one movement that you will use for the music description. In most instances, this information is listed in the Approved Video list.
    1. You will watch the video again (one or more times) or attend a selected live performance of your choice before you write your Concert Paper.
  2. Approved Contrasting/Non-Classical Music Performance Videos (List 2)
    1. It is required that you use a performance that is not classical music to contrast with the performance used for the report form.
    1. There is no report form required for this performance.
    1. Watch the video (one or more times) or attend a selected live performance of your choice before you write your Concert Paper.

IMPORTANTFor this part of your Concert Paper, you must select a music style with which you are not familiar.

You may use any of the performance videos in List 2 or attend any live performance of non-classical music attended during the semester to use for the Concert Paper. These live performances do not require instructor approval, but you may contact the instructor if you’re in doubt about the appropriateness of the music. NOTE: no other video performances can be used without prior approval.

The performance opportunities in the Denver area are too unclear as we deal with ever-changing pandemic restrictions to list here. Non-classical music styles include, among others: jazz, country, rap, EDM, punk, rock, alternative, metal, string band, ukulele, and world musics, such as mariachi, gamelan, salsa, Indian raga, Bollywood, taiko drumming, Celtic, J-pop, K-pop, etc.
