LITERATURE REVIEW

Focus on a specific aspect of care within the clinical practice area and critically appraise and evaluate its current use based on current literature. Please link the topic of interest to a chosen competency / common theme within your practice competency document. The literature review word limit is 3,000 words (+/- 10%). The literature review will incorporate a 500 word literature search strategy. The Literature review topic must be agreed with the unit leader prior to commencing.

Guidelines:

The Literature review should include the following:-

1. The introduction should outline aims and objectives & including justification of the chosen topic with the appropriate link to the chosen competency/ theme.

2. Critically analysis of recent literature to identify the best available evidence in the literature for to topic of your interest. This may include (editorials, literature reviews and author comment, websites, government and professional organisation guidelines, policies and protocols) You need to develop a logical and coherent discussion that integrate the key details of the literature and communicates your points of view. This should include analytical comment, critical evaluation with respect to facts, principles, theories and research where appropriate.

3. Critically evaluate and integrate the outcomes of the literature review against you your local practice and appropriately explore areas to improve client care within that area.

4. The conclusion should provide a summary of the main themes discussed and provide a closure to the objectives presented in the introduction. You should also include recommendations for future practice based on the outcomes of your literature review.
