Magazine Assessment

Learning Goal:
 To demonstrate the skills and knowledge that parents, guardians, and caregivers
need, with particular emphasis on maternal health, pregnancy, birth, and the early
years of human development (birth to six years old).
 To demonstrate an understanding of the developmental needs of young children, be
able to communicate with them, and effectively guide their early behaviour.
 To demonstrate research skills through investigations related to caregiving and
child rearing.
Task: Using the steps outlined below, you will create a parenting magazine that includes a
cover page, 3 relevant articles (from the topics listed) and one healthy lifestyle
advertisement (from topics listed). You must work on this task individually.
Step 1:
Create a cover page for your magazine. The cover must be colourful, creative and eye
catching! The magazine must include a creative magazine title, picture, blurbs of your lead
stories, editors/contributors and date.
Step 2:
Create three informative articles, in magazine article layout form (include captions,
columns etc.) from the topic list below – SELECT THREE FROM THE FIVE AREAS LISTED
BELOW. Be creative in how you write your articles. For example, the article could be an
informative article, letter to the editor or an expert giving advice, etc.

o The articles must be a maximum of 2 pages typed, double-spaced, size 12
font (EACH!)
o A small relevant image may be included to enhance your article (graph, chart,
picture, etc.)
o APA format, A WORKS CITED TO BE INCLUDED AT THE BACK OF YOUR
MAGAZINE

Step 3:
Create a one full page public service announcement to go in your magazine. Your ad
must reflect the importance of health prior to or, during pregnancy. You may NOT use a
product or service that already exists.

o Your advertisement must include the name of the product/organization
o The advertisement needs to be persuasive and convincing
o It must be attractive and eye catching
