Option A – The works that we have read during the course of the semester all grapple with the notion of the self. Discuss how two of the texts we have read this semester specifically seek to destabilize traditional understandings of person hood and identity.

Option B – Analyze the representation of femininity and/or motherhood in two of the texts we have read this semester. Specifically address how these texts either advocate for or against a biological or cultural construct of the feminine.

You may devise a topic and argument of your own choosing, but must present it to me ahead of time for approval.

Guidelines –

• If you wish, submit a “proposal” paragraph on D2L. by 04/20. The paragraph should explain the topic you have chosen. Also include three quotes from the texts you will be using to make your argument.
• Consider a problem or issue that your subject makes apparent and construct a coherent argument around how to address the problem or issue. Keep your focus narrow enough to go into depth in your analysis.
• Observe and interpret the nuances, repercussions, and significance of your argument.
