Action research helps scholar-practitioners in education to be more effective at what they care most about. Being a working part of a culture of learning is a quintessential experience for any scholar-practitioner! When practitioners have convincing data and evidence that their work has made a real difference in their organizations, all of the hours of planning and engagement become worthwhile.

The effectiveness of a learning organization is evident in the way it tackles mundane work issues. A willingness to work with unique elements of each set of legal and ethical circumstances rather than simply complying with rigid rules and policies demonstrates a willingness to learn and grow from experiences.

Instructions
Develop an analysis of your organization’s behaviors and actions relative to one ethical dilemma and one legal or regulatory constraint or requirement.

Assume the role of change leader and explain how you would apply principles and strategies of organizational learning to the resolution of the legal and ethical issues.
The issues may be separate—for instance, ADA compliance (legal) and academic integrity (ethical)—or they may be intertwined, such as legal and ethical aspects of advising practice.
Use your professional experience and the readings to compose the paper and support your plan. Integrate the background theoretical material with specific strategies for applying organizational learning principles to the legal and ethical aspects of your institution.
Use the following questions to guide your analysis:

How does your organization use (or not use) systems thinking to guide decisions about ethics, values, legal, or regulatory issues?
What is the culture of decision making and addressing legal and ethical issues as they arise?
Is there a leadership team?
How are stakeholders involved in decisions related to legal and ethical issues?
Is there follow-up to assess the impact over time?
How does the culture of how legal and ethical issues are handled relate to your organization’s values or its mission?
Is there alignment between your organization’s mission, vision, and values and how it handles ethical issues?
