This week, your assignment is to assess a list of equipment given to you by Sarah Russell, the IT administrator of Happy Accident Labs. You have been hired as a contractor, and once your work is done, you will be leaving. Once you have left, Sarah will be the sole IT professional working for Happy Accident Labs.
• If you were in control of Happy Accident Labs, would you hire security personnel? Before you decide whether you would, you need to do two things:
• Determine what skills and knowledge the expert would need to have.
• To stay competitive in the industry, roughly what salary would you need to pay this person? Research typical salaries online and be sure to cite your sources.
• Now that you know what you’ll be paying a new employee and what skills are needed, would you still hire someone? Why?
• If you wouldn’t hire someone, what work will Sarah have to do in addition to her normal role as the IT lead?
You have been hired as a consultant by Happy Accident Labs (HAL) to help them design their new network for supporting their Smarticle Particle mission. The owner of HAL, Bill Winnicott, has a list of equipment provided to him by Sarah Russell, his full-time IT administrator. This equipment list is as follows:
• 1 Firewall
• 2 Switches
• 1 Linux file server
• 10 Laptops
• 5 Windows Servers
• Sarah Russell has told Bill repeatedly this is all they need, and she makes no effort to explain it further.
• The Firewall and Switches are particularly expensive, and he’d like it explained why he needs them, as well as any other security or network devices that Happy Accident Labs may need to have a complete and secure network.
