Introduction to Macroeconomics

This project is designed to help the students gain a more informed perspective of current economic issues facing world economies at different stages of development.

The students can choose to work individually or with a partner to research and submit a 5-7 page paper (MLA Style), with a separate Bibliography as follows:

Use items 1 & 2 below for your introductory paragraph, and follow instructions in 3 to complete the rest of the paper.

1. What criteria are used to describe countries as advanced economies, developing economies, and least developed? Visit official web sites for your research (e.g. UN, IMF, CIA, OECD, WTO, The Heritage Foundation)
2. Provide one example of a country under each description.
3. Select only ONE country (other than USA) from the three countries you list above and carry out thorough research of that country’s economy.

Minimum areas to discuss includes:  the GDP, GDP by Sector, GDP Per capita, employment by sector, major industries, unemployment, labor force by age, education, literacy rates, life expectancy, natural resources, technology, inflation, average income, sources of income, % below the poverty line, governmental structure and money system, trade, foreign direct investment, national debt, exchange rates, infrastructure, technology, war, genocide, disease, geography and climate, trends and their outlook for the future.  Compare these findings to the United States economy.

4. Complete and submit your paper, and Member Rating Form via Assignment tabs
