ESSAY PROMPTS:
1. Analyze the approaches, objectives and outcomes of the “second-wave” feminist movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Was it was successful? Why or why not?

2. Describe the events surrounding the Watergate scandal of 1972-1974. Analyze the historical significance of Watergate, including by considering executive privilege, limits on presidential power, and how the Watergate scandal changed the public perception of the presidency.

3. Compare and contrast the presidencies of Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, including their personal backgrounds, appeal to Americans, domestic issues and policies while President, and foreign policies during their presidencies. What do their differences and similarities tell us about American society in the 1970s to the 1980s?

4. Analyze some aspects of inequality and conflict in the United States during the 1990s, including changes in the economy, immigration, the prison system, the culture wars, and the antigovernment extreme.

5. How did the attacks of September 11 shape U.S. foreign policy? How did personal freedoms change under the Bush administration following 9/11? Assess and analyze the Bush Doctrine. Was it was successful? Why or why not?
