In this course on Information Security and the Global Cyber Threat Environment, you’ll complete a project to explore cyber threats, particularly those posed by Russia as an adversary. You will create transcripts and presentations. Throughout the project, you’ll encounter several milestones to guide your progress. The objective is to investigate cybersecurity practices, challenges and responses, explicitly focusing on Russia’s role in the global cyber threat environment.
In this project, you will comprehensively explore Russia’s strategic cyber capabilities, dissecting the who, what, when, where and why of their operations. Through a historical lens, you will examine the motivations behind Russia’s cyber activities, their preferred targets and the methods they employ to achieve their objectives. Each module builds on the previous one, requiring you to revise and resubmit all sections based on feedback and new insights gained.
In analyzing “The What,” it is crucial to explore the historical context, economic interests and security concerns driving Russia’s geopolitical maneuvers. Understanding “The Who” behind these actions involves examining key figures such as Putin, influential oligarchs and the Kremlin’s inner circle shaping policies. By analyzing recurring patterns and power dynamics, a comprehensive understanding of Russia’s geopolitical strategy emerges, shedding light on its objectives and potential future moves.

“The What”—Explain the recurring patterns and geopolitical dynamics influencing Russia’s actions.
- Write a transcript outlining the key points you want to cover in your video.
- Create title, agenda and reference slides; they do not count toward your required slides.
- Each module builds on the previous one, requiring you to revise and resubmit all sections based on any feedback provided and new insights gained.
- Create 6–8 required slides. Your presentation should be 2:00 to 3:00 minutes long.
- Practice reading through the transcript to ensure clarity and fluency.
- It is recommended that you position yourself in the frame, ensuring you are clearly visible and audible. This is not required but recommended.
- Record and watch your video multiple times to check for errors or areas that need improvement.
- Make any necessary revisions to ensure your video meets the requirements of the assignment.
- Feel free to use tools such as PowerPoint or Canva to create your slides. Once recorded, upload your video to YouTube or another video management site. You will then upload the video URL to your VT.
Assignment Guidelines and Rubric
• Your assignment should be between 2:00 and 3:00 minutes in length.
• Your assignment should address all of the above prompts and be 6–8 slides in length.
• You are required to have a minimum of 1 reference to the module resources and a minimum of 1 additional scholarly source to support the points you make.
• First, upload the video URL to the VoiceThread slide. Second, you are required to submit your transcript.
• Consistency in format, whether APA, MLA or IEEE, is crucial for clarity and professionalism in academic writing. You may use APA, MLA or IEEE, but whichever format you choose, you are required to remain consistent in your usage. Do not use multiple formats.
• Responses are not required, but feel free to engage with one another by posting a short response to your instructor or peers.
