Global Commons

1. The ‘global commons’ is a term applied to resources simultaneously used and shared by all, but under the jurisdiction of none. In particular, they are not owned by any one nation state, nor under any state’s jurisdiction. In an interconnected and interdependent world, it is claimed that many of the most pressing issues we face are in the realm of the global commons. This week we consider the claim that there is a pressing need for high levels of cooperation between nations, indeed what amounts to global governance, in order to address such threats
