Financial Standards

Question 1

Context:
For the last decade, and more, regulators have sought to strengthen the financial reporting framework and create internationally accepted financial standards. Running alongside the development of the financial reporting framework has been the recognition of the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
After every large company collapse there is normally an investigation as to the causes of the failure. Reports on large company failures such as, Enron (USA) 2001, Lehman 4 Brothers (USA) 2008 and Carillion plc (UK) 2018 have consistently shown failures in either their reporting standards or their CSR or both.
Required:
Critically review the developments that have occurred in both international financial reporting and CSR in order to protect investors and markets from corporate failure. In addition, suggest ways in which both financial reporting and CSR can be improved upon in the real world in the context of protecting investors.

Question 2

You will be writing a research paper (4 – 6 pages) on the topic of your choice.

Style: The paper must conform to parenthetical standards of the MLA style complete with title page, parenthetical citations, and works cited page at the end of the paper.

Sources: You must use at least four sources in your essay. One of these must be a primary source. One of these sources must come from the Schoolcraft library databases.

Thesis statement and Purpose: Your paper must have both a solid thesis statement and a definite purpose.

Formatting: All papers must be typed, double spaced, and use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Other considerations: Your essay should use sources only as a way to illustrate your own ideas on the subject. Sources, while very important, should be used sparingly as a way to give credence to your ideas. Do not use more than one block quote in your essay. Longer passages must be either paraphrased or summarized from the original text.
