Ethical Roles

This question has three parts/ Annotated bibliography, research paper, and presentation. Each one has to be in a different file.

Research Project – Topic Selection

Your semester-end research project is on either a law enforcement agency or a unit within a law enforcement agency. All aspects of the project require that you identify the function of police (law enforcement) in the criminal justice system and society as a whole; critiques police with regard to the nature of oppression and the impact of police on specific demographic groups; articulates interrelated structure of criminal justice system and police role therein; and identifies and evaluates ethical roles in policing.

This specific assignment requires that you identify whether you are doing the research project as an individual or a group of up to four (and identifying your group members); identifies the operational unit or agency; and provides a brief analysis of the assignment / function / activity of the unit or role of the agency.

The submission should be in APA format with cover page, body text that identifies whether you are working alone or in a group, what your choice of unit or agency is, and references used thus far (of which there will be at least five). If working as a group, only one member of the group needs to submit this assignment and all members of the group will receive credit.

Research Project – Annotated Bibliography

As with the topic selection assignment, your semester-end research project is on either a law enforcement agency or a unit within a law enforcement agency. All aspects of the project require that you identify the function of police (law enforcement) in the criminal justice system and society as a whole; critiques police with regard to the nature of oppression and the impact of police on specific demographic groups; articulates interrelated structure of criminal justice system and police role therein; and identifies and evaluates ethical roles in policing.

This specific assignment requires that you assemble an annotated bibliography in preparation for writing your paper and preparing your topic for presentation. You should assemble a list of ten or more references in APA format and, with each reference, summarize in one paragraph the value and utility of that reference to your research and writing efforts. For ten references, there will be ten paragraphs of analysis, one paragraph per reference. Done properly, this provides the foundation of your research and prepares you for the writing and presentation of your work.

The submission should be in APA format with cover page, body text that is the list of references and annotations (the paragraph analyses). If working as a group, only one member of the group needs to submit this assignment and all members of the group will receive credit.

Research Paper

Your semester-end research project is on either a law enforcement agency or a unit within a law enforcement agency. All aspects of the project require that you identify the function of police (law enforcement) in the criminal justice system and society as a whole; critiques police with regard to the nature of oppression and the impact of police on specific demographic groups; articulates interrelated structure of criminal justice system and police role therein; and identifies and evaluates ethical roles in policing.

The research paper itself covers these topics and others as you have drawn information from class and the text in addition to your research.

Your final research paper submission should be in APA format with cover page, abstract, eight or more pages of body text with in-text citations to your references and research materials, and listing of references in APA format at the end of the paper. Assuming at least one page of references, cover page, abstract page, and eight pages of body text, your submission should be at least eleven pages.

If working as a group, only one member of the group needs to submit this assignment and all members of the group will receive credit.

Research Project – Presentation

This presentation is a summary of your semester-end research project on either a law enforcement agency or a unit within a law enforcement agency. All aspects of the project require that you identify the function of police (law enforcement) in the criminal justice system and society as a whole; critiques police with regard to the nature of oppression and the impact of police on specific demographic groups; articulates interrelated structure of criminal justice system and police role therein; and identifies and evaluates ethical roles in policing.

Your final research presentation should be three to five minutes in length with a supporting visual component (typically a Powerpoint presentation).
