Employment Rules and Codes of Conduct

Mini Lecture:
We will look at BOP employee rules, Code of Conduct and Employment in the Federal Bureau of Prisons. In the central Louisiana area, there are two Federal Correctional Complexes. FCC Pollock employs almost 750 staff members and FCC Oakdale employs around 600 in professions such as correctional officers, drug treatment counselors, cooks, nurses, doctors, teachers, etc. The starting base salary is around $50,000 for the most entry level position (they actually make more). That is a great starting salary. It is common for officers to exceed $100K per year. You do need a significant amount of experience or a bachelor’s degree. As with any Federal agency, honourably discharged veterans do receive preference in the hiring process. As with any field, a complete and detailed resume is a must for those who hope to gain employment.
But there are rules for all Federal Law Enforcement Officers and there are standards which must be met. We will also introduce students to those and note a few specifics.
Instructions:
Draft your responses to the assignments below and submit them via the Module 7 drop box. Always use your own words. I never want to read words from another source! If you understand the material, you should be able to put it in your own words.
Most questions require a paragraph response, but a few require a list. No question should be answered in less than two sentences (2 SENTENCE RULE). Students should give complete, thorough responses. When the question seems to demand only a short response, you can always expound on the general topic of the question. Curt responses are never acceptable. Your answers should demonstrate an understanding of the topic even if the question only seems to require a short answer.
Work submitted should be in Microsoft Word. Use Arial, Times New Roman or Calibri, 12- or 14-point font only. Do not add font colour to any submission. Make your responses BOLD. Questions are 5 points each unless noted.
