This assignment is an individual report that requires you to explore:

Historically, the state in India has maintained a dominant position in employment relations and continues to do so in terms of dispute resolution. However, the state is gradually withdrawing from the regulation of labour markets without making fundamental changes to the labour law framework (Badigannavar, 2013).
In this context, critically analyse the implications of economic reforms on the changing employment relationship between government, employers and employees/trade unions. Also, critically evaluate the rationale behind the growing activism and increase of strikes in India based on the following case:
‘Millions strike in India over reforms’
To develop your analysis you should present a balanced mixture of theory and practice and refer to the following issues:
1) Consider how globalisation has affected international and national employment relations.
2) Provide a contextual framework to explain the socio-economic and political system of the country or region of the case analysed.
3) Develop a clear theoretical framework of ‘convergence’ and ‘divergence’ theories in Employment Relations to analyse the case study chosen.
4) Critically analyse the role of the trade union, workers, employers and government using appropriate employment relations theoretical framework explored in the module.
