Electronic Health Records

You are CIO of Idaho Medical Group Practice specialized in rehabilitation care. There are many electronic health records. You have done a preliminary study and finally decided to focus on two electronic health records: Sevocity and Office Ally. To make an informed decision on which electronic health record you want to choose for your medical group practice, you visit two EHR companies. Each company provides you with the access to their electronic health record system for you to explore a possibility of purchasing the access.

This individual project is designed for helping students become familiar with common functionality of electronic health records (EHR) through hands-on exercises. After completing this project, students should have a good understanding of the functionality of the EHRs and how the EHRs will affect healthcare organizations and health care providers in delivering quality of patient care.

To conduct this project, the following activities should be performed:

1. To access two EHRs. See the access information provided at the end of this document.
2. Once your login the EHRs, spend time exploring the two electronic health record systems and identify the main functionality of each EHR system provided for health care providers and health managers;
3. To compare the similarities and differences between the two EHR systems; and
4. To decide which EHR system you would recommend for your medical group practice to purchase and explain the reasons why

After the completion of this project, students are required to present the project outcomes to the class. Your project product is Power Point presentation with a real-time demo to share your findings.

Your presentation should include:

1. Introduction: Provide background information about each electronic health record system and the purpose of the project
2. Main findings: Present the results that you have found from each electronic health record, for instance, what features or functions are provided, what functions do you like the best, and what similarities and differences between the two EHRs, etc.
3. Recommendations/Conclusion: Based on the findings, you provide the recommendations on which electronic health record you would like to purchase for your medical group practice and your rationale for your decision

The individual project grade will be based on the quality of the project and oral presentation. See the detailed assessment of the project below:

• Ability to demonstrate the common functionality of electronic health records
• Degree of insight and understanding into the issues related to electronic health records
• Clarity of explanation during your presentation
• Overall quality of the presentation and EHR demo (e.g. clear, well organized, free of grammatical errors and spelling errors)
