1. Discuss with classmates some of the reasons “why” we conduct criminal justice/security management research? What is the role of “theory” in good research?

2.Review the two assigned readings on arrest in misdemeanor domestic violence situations. This is a very important example of research and how it can impact public policy. It is also a good demonstration of how to be a good “consumer” of research and why asking the right question is very important! After reading, discuss with your classmates the importance of doing “good criminal justice/security management research”. How did research influence public policy in terms of how the police respond to domestic violence calls? Was the research done by Sherman and Berk (1984) done well enough to serve as the impetus for this policy?
