Covid-19 Vaccines

As many of you know Pfizer is most popularly known today as the maker of the Pfizer Covid-19 Vaccines. What some people may not know is that Pfizer has been a part of making and recreating vaccines since the mid 1800’s. The below PESTLE analysis I think for Pfizer gives a good glance at the forces they have on them in particular Political and Technology pushing hard on the other areas that many manufacturers don’t have.

Here is a PESTLE analysis of Pfizer:

Political: Pfizer went up against some political issues when President Trump pushed to have the vaccine be approved as soon as possible and more importantly prior to November 3, 2020. The company tried but did not feel that enough trials were done to safely move forward and to go to the FDA any sooner than they did. When they got word that the trials were a huge success they went forward. However, the vaccine did not get approved until November 4, 2020. “The delay later enraged Mr. Trump, who claimed it was part of a conspiracy to damage his chance at re-election. Dr. Bourla said he turned a blind eye to the Election Day deadline” (Lafraniere et al., 2020).
-They also refused any government funding until the testing and trials were done so as not to be governed with timelines and other bureaucratic issues.
Economic: The economic issue they are going to face soon is that at some point everyone that is going to get vaccinated will be vaccinated and that massive income is going to come to its industy life cycle. The chances of a new pandemic coming through again is not likely to happen and they have to figure out where and how they are going to continue its momentum, or how they are going to utilize the excess income to grow.
Social: Pfizer has taken a heavy hit on social media for people that have had reactions, or still are getting Covid even with the vaccine. Unlike other vaccines where the virus was wiped out this one has made people question if it is really doing anything.
Technology: Technology is what allowed the company to even seek this particular vaccine in a matter of months. “A new method of developing vaccines was already waiting to be tested, with the coronavirus a perfect target. Sky-high infection rates accelerated the pace of clinical trials, the most time-consuming part of the process” (Lafraniere et al., 2020).
Legal: Fortunately for the company, at least with the Covid Vaccines “The federal government has granted companies like Pfizer and Moderna immunity from liability if something unintentionally goes wrong with their vaccines” (Sigalos, M., 2020).
Environment: Pfizer promotes sustainability and not only has a sustainable packaging team to promote recycled materials and “works with brand managers and packaging designers to advance sustainable packaging throughout the company” (Pfizer, 2021). They continue to seek ways to promote sustainability.
