Counselling Ethics

For this assignment you will write a paper based on your readings and the completion of several self-inventories designed to assist you in considering various ethical dilemmas and further develop your ethics and values. This paper will be based on 2 parts. The completion and submission of the self-inventories and the completion of the essay portion.

Part 1- Completed Self-Inventories (35 points)

o Ch. 2 A Survey of Your Attitudes and Beliefs about the Counselor as Person and Professional

o Ch. 3 Self-Inventory of Attitudes Relating to Ethics Issues

Section Two: Self-Reflection on Counseling Ethics Paper
Part 2- Self-Reflection Essay (140 points)
This essay will address several questions related to the self-inventories you have completed. Some of these questions may have been part of discussion forums. Your answers to these questions should be well developed and thought-out reflecting material from your own insights/awareness of your development in the counseling field, personal and/or professional experiences, information learned from forums, and/or readings. This essay should be well organized, integrated, and demonstrate a connection of ideas from paragraph to paragraph. This should not merely be a collection of short answers in paragraph form. Your essay should address the following questions:
• The Role of Values In Counseling- min 1 page, max 2pages
• How are your values an asset or liability in your work with clients?
• Which specific kinds of clients might you have difficulty working with because of a clash of values?
• Multicultural Counseling- min 1 page, max 2 pages
• Which areas were low scoring for you (counselor awareness, understanding worldview, appropriate interventions)? Based on the ways listed to constructively improve your grade which 2-3 ways are you most interested in trying? Be sure to explain.
• In what ways were these scores surprising (or not surprising)?
• Ethical Issues- min 1 page, max 2 pages
• Based on discussion forum what surprised you the most about divergent viewpoints on the ethical issue discussed? Be sure to give specifics.
• Discuss some ways you can prepare clients for issues pertaining to confidentiality. How can you teach them about its purposes and legal restrictions on it?
