Management Information reports can be classified as: analysis, exception and key target reports. Explain the nature of each of these categories and give an example of how each could be appropriately used in a student attendance monitoring system. (Maximum 400 words)

Question 2 (12 marks)
A number of occupations are represented and regulated by professional societies. For IS/IT (in the UK) the professional society is the Chartered Institute of IT (BCS). Assess the role of professional societies (in general) and the role and relevance of the BCS to the practice of IS / IT. (Maximum 500 words)

Question 3 (10 marks)
Majestic is a company which hires out temporary secretarial staff to clients. Majestic’s Contracts Department consists of the Applications Controller, the Contracts Manager, and the Contracts Co-ordinator.
a. Use VISIO to draw the context diagram and the level 2 data flow diagram for the operations of the Contracts Department, as detailed below. Show all datastores, whether they are private or not. (6 marks: 2 marks for context diagram and 4 marks for level 2 DFD)
b. Explain every stage of your drawings (annotations–200 words). (4 marks)
A secretary who wants to do temporary work via Majestic and fills in an application form on which s/he gives personal details, qualifications and employment history. The application form is received by the Applications Controller, who files it in the Applications Folder. Every morning, the Contracts Manager removes the forms from the Applications Folder, and decides which applicants are worth hiring out to clients. The Contracts Manager tells each applicant, via a letter, whether s/he has been successful or not. Details of successful applicants are entered into the Temps File, which is a database held on the office PC. If a client company asks Majestic about hiring a temporary secretary, the Contracts Manager looks through the Temps File to see who would be suitable. She then informs the relevant temporary secretary, and passes to the Personnel Department all the relevant details, including the hourly rate to be charged to the client. Each week the Contracts Co-ordinator receives copies of any new contracts from the Personnel Department, and sends them to the relevant clients, keeping a photocopy of each one in the Contracts Sent File.
