Clinical Care

Nurses are in a unique position to combine their knowledge of clinical care with healthcare technology in a way that can benefit healthcare as it continues to move forward. This course is meant to provide an overview of information and communication technology and its use in healthcare. Additionally, the content shows how healthcare informatics can be a specialty for nurses. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) created The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education to guide the education of nursing. We will be focusing on the most prominent competency aligned with this course: Domain 8. There are five entry-level Domain 8 competencies. This journal will allow you to review the information from the course and connect it to Domain 8 of the AACN Essentials. This will supply a foundation for reflecting on your newly developed knowledge. The Entry-Level competencies for the AACN Essentials Domain 8 include the following:

Entry-Level Domain 8 Competencies

8.1 Describe the various information and communication technology tools used in the care of patients, communities, and populations.

8.4 Use information and communication technology to support documentation of care and communication among providers, patients, and all system levels.
