After Reading Chapters 9 and 10 of your book and learning the authors’ perspectives, answer the following questions. Be sure to elaborate by giving examples to bolster your position.

  1. Explain the main differences between being wealthy and being poor as an individual travels through the criminal justice system and give examples of similarities and differences along the way. Feel free to get intersectional by adding race, gender, sexual orientation, or nationality.
  2. In the U.S. penal system, violence is mostly hidden from the public, as are the realities about who is contained there. Why is this a concern? Who does it impact? How could this be changed? What should be done?
  3. In terms of race control, how does the criminal justice system work to the disadvantage of minorities and to the advantage of non-minorities? Please give examples.
  4. How has the identification of criminals been affected by the intersection of at least two of any combination of the three variables – class, race, and gender? Kindly provide examples.
