Challenge Project 5-8

For this project, you work with a classmate (or on your own) to develop source and dependent workbooks. The source workbook includes two sheets with data about weekday activities. The dependent workbook uses external reference formulas to summarize two weeks’ activities.

Create a new workbook and save it as [your initials] Excel 5-8a. Modify your workbook according to the following guidelines:

• Name the sheet FirstWk and insert a second sheet.
• Name the second sheet SecondWk and group the sheets.
• Type Monday in cell B3 and fill the days to Friday. Type Total in cell G3.
• Select cell A4 and type the name of a routine daily task or activity. Examples are Surf social media, Watch videos, Work on school work, and so on. Type an activity name in each of cells A5:A8.
• Enter the number of minutes per day for each activity. Sum each activity in column G.
• Type main labels in rows 1:2 to describe the data.
• Format the grouped sheets in an attractive, easy-to-view style.
• Ungroup the sheets.
• Save the workbook and leave it open.
• Create a new workbook named [your initials] Excel 5-8b.
• Copy either sheet from [your initials] Excel 5-8a into [your initials] Excel 5-8b and name the sheet TwoWkSpan.
• Delete the data cells on the TwoWkSpan sheet and select cell B4.
• Create an external reference formula to add the first task minutes for Monday from the two sheets in [your initials] Excel 5-8a.
• Edit and copy the formula to complete the data.
• Insert and format an icon to enhance the TwoWkSpan sheet.
• Insert a hyperlink in the dependent workbook to open the source workbook.
