Causal Analysis

Cause and effect writing is purposed to give reasons and explanations for behavior, events, or conditions.

Objectives:

in the Causal Analysis Module to support an argument.
◦Use at least three (3) quotes to help support your points/argumentative assertions.
◦Document sources using MLA-style in-text citations and works cited page.
◦Decide how/when to quote, paraphrase, and/or summarize source materials. Use the Pearson Guide to the 2016 MLA Handbook to verify your citations. You will be graded on precise citations.
◦Integrate source materials smoothly into an essay.

The Topic: Develop your own thesis statement showing a cause and effect relationship on the topic of Student Loans.

Requirements: (Review each one carefully)
◾The essay must be a minimum of three (3) full pages.
◾The essay must show a clear cause and effect relationship (use transitional words and phrases that show causal relationships)
◾The paper must have an explicit thesis statement and precise topic sentences.
◾Support points using evidence from the article provided.
◾Integrate a minimum of three (3) quotes, paraphrases, OR summaries from only the supplied outside source. NO other outside sources are allowed.
◾Each point paragraph should use a quote or paraphrase from supplied outside source.
◾You may also use personal experience and your own knowledge to support your points, but avoid using first person unless absolutely necessary.
◾Do NOT use second person “you”. Instead identify to whom you are referring.
◾Use an appropriate level of formality, and use a reasonable tone.
◾This paper should be a synthesis of information from the sources AND your own inferences, comments, and conclusions. You should not be overly reliant on any one source, nor should your paper be a patchwork of information from the sources.
◾Sources must be documented using MLA-style parenthetical references and works cited page.
◾The paper must be typed in MLA format (See e-text Little, Brown Handbook and/or module)
