Welcome to Nurs 499 Capstone in Evidence-Based Professional Nursing Practice

The student will provide a proposal on the approved topic from NURS 378 using Evidence-Based Project in healthcare and their respective community setting.  You will develop a protocol supported by evidence, review and critically appraise the literature regarding this topic, and develop a project proposal. The proposal should include the plan for implementation, and evaluation.  During week 8, the student will present his/her EBP project and finally, create a poster suitable for presentation at a nursing conference or for publication. The Project must focus on the RN/BSN practice. Please consult your practicing state’s Nurse Practice Act. Your project proposal must not focus on interventions carried out by an Advanced Practice Nurse.

Concepts studied during your progression through the RN-BSN program should be clearly integrated into this assignment.  This presentation demonstrates your achievement of the outcomes of the Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice as defined by the American Association of College of Nursing

  • Welcome to Week 4
  • Week four discussion will explore the significance of stakeholders in the practice setting when implementing a change initiative. The written assignment paper in week four will involve analysis of the key stakeholders aligned with your proposed project.
  • Week 4: Lecture – Stakeholder Analysis
  • Stakeholders can include external and internal individuals/team. Review video for details on how to identify stakeholders. Identification of stakeholders is a crucial step because these individuals, groups of people are affected or may affect the outcome of the project.
  • Primary stakeholders are individuals or groups benefiting from the project. These could be your target population or community group your identified health concern may benefit from the project.
  • Secondary stakeholders are individuals who may benefit from the project because the individuals and/or organizations that live with, are close to, or care for the people in question benefited from the project.
  • Key stakeholders are agencies or individuals of influence from the community that can serve as your interest groups or drivers of parts of your project.  Without the buy-in from these key stakeholders, your project may come to a halt or not come to fruition altogether.
  • Influence can be interpreted in many ways through individuals or a group, administrator, large organizations or networks, respected community leader, and economics.
  • Identification of difficult stakeholders are key to the success of your project. When dealing with difficult stakeholders, remember and accept their authority. Remove your personal negative emotions and understand their lens or perspective. Determine their motivations. Listen to what they are saying. Ask for their advice. Be honest and tailor your communication to meet their needs.
  • Always identify difficult stakeholders early in your project. Stakeholder management is where analysis and practice meet to allow you to use the analysis to help gain support and buy-in for your effort.

Assignment Prompt

Identify and analyze the stakeholders from your approved topic in the NURS 378 course. The purpose of a stakeholder analysis is to establish the significance of the stakeholders to your project.

Directions:

For the background, introduce your health concern (NURS 378 approved topic) and the context that led you to identify your health concern. You will explore the relevant background literature and theory related to your topic. Discuss its relevance to your local community health setting, organizational, metropolitan, state, national, and international levels as applicable. You will discuss the potential benefits and challenges of addressing the community health topic in your local setting, and explore the larger contextual impact related to this problem. The conclusion of this design is the proposal for the next steps to address the identified health concern.

Background Literature:  provide a critical evaluation of existing knowledge as it pertains to the topic. The search for background literature does not have to be exhaustive but must be sufficiently thorough to convince reviewers that you are up to date on the state of the field. Demonstrate that you are familiar with your field, that you understand it and that you have a balanced knowledge of it. Cite recent literature and, if appropriate, indicate your awareness of any discrepancies or inaccuracies in the literature.  A minimum of 3-5 citations are required for this section.

The key areas to include in this paper are:

  • Background: Community Health Concern and Identification
  • Background Literature
  • Identification of the external, internal and key stakeholders.
  • Identification of the beneficiary and secondary stakeholders.
  • Identification of each stakeholder’s significance to your project objectives and outcomes.
  • Identify the benefits and challenges of the identified stakeholders to your project.
  • If challenges were identified, how will you address them to meet your project objectives and outcomes?
  • Describe potential impacts and motivation of your project for the stakeholders.

The stakeholder analysis paper will form one of the sections of your Week 8 EBP presentation.  All work must be in APA 7th edition format.
