Objective:
The objective of this assignment is to develop a comprehensive and persuasive academic program proposal based on previously conducted research and analysis. Students will utilize technical writing and critical thinking skills to present a strong case for the implementation of a new academic program by documenting its necessity and viability. Additionally, students will explore the capabilities and limitations of AI-generated content in academic contexts.
Project Audience:
The primary audience for this proposal is the University System of Georgia Board of Regents (BoR), the governing body responsible for approving new academic programs within the state. Additionally, the proposal will be of interest to stakeholders within Middle Georgia State University, including faculty members, department chairs, the Dean, and other administrators involved in academic planning and development.
Instructions:
Based on the research conducted in your academic program analytical report, write a proposal addressed to the USG BoR for the academic program deemed most viable in Assignment 4A. All proposals should be written individually, not in a group.
Students may use ChatGPT 3.5 to assist in generating the content of the proposal based on the research collected in the analytical report. *
The proposal must adhere to the following guidelines:
• Must include the following essential information: USG institution, the proposed degree program, the program CIP code, and the institutional school and department.
• At a minimum, must include the following component parts:
o Mission/Sector/Regional Accreditation Level Fit
o Need (based on graduate employability and wages and/or support of workforce needs in the state of Georgia)
o Graduate Supply and Duplication Analysis
o Economic Viability (faculty, facility, and technology expenses for onboarding of the program and/or evidence for student demand for the program, including a description of “feeder” programs that will help populate the new degree)
o Rationale for Approval
• Must have appropriate citations, including:
o Citations for all text generated by ChatGPT 3.5 to include all prompts used to generate the proposal.
o All relevant sources used in the analytical report.
Assessment Criteria:
• Thoroughness and coherence of the proposal.
• Clarity and persuasiveness of the arguments presented in the proposal.
• Effective utilization of research findings to support the need for the proposed academic program.
