Your Task
There are noticeable differences between effective and ineffective change experiences. A variety of factors can contribute to these differences such as change readiness, framing of the change issue, change leadership, resistance and organisational culture.
The aim of this group assignment is for you as a group to evaluate the differences between effective and ineffective change programmes using Kotter’s (2014) accelerate framework. Note that Kotter (1995) also proposed a previous leading change framework. See: The 8-Step Process for Leading Change | Dr. John Kotter (kotterinc.com)
Although there are other perspectives to change, and Kotter’s framework does have criticisms, it is a useful starting point from which to evaluate a change initiative.
In the context of a familiar organisation( i have chosen Hotelbeds, i also attached a recent ongoing incident in the organisation as a file named reflection 2 and note that Hotelbeds has recently changed to HBX Group and promoting themselves to be an ecosystem, thats a big change the employees and partners are experiecing together) here is their website https://www.hbxgroup.com/ ), hope this will help.
TASK
- choose an effective change experience and a less effective change experience within the chossen organisation so that the culture is consistent. Then contrast these two experiences against Kotter’s (2014) accelerate framework to identify any differences – such as the less effective change missing out some key steps in Kotter’s framework as compared to the more effective change initiative. It would also be useful to consider the role of organisation culture on the two change initiatives.
Some questions that may be useful in your evaluation are:
What do you believe made the difference between a successful and an unsuccessful change programme?
Were there any steps in Kotter’s framework that were either highlighted or missed out that made a difference between a successful vs. an unsuccessful change?
What role did leadership play in either helping or hindering the change?
Was there any resistance and how effectively was it managed?
What is your criteria for evaluating whether a change is effective or not?
Be sure to cite any relevant sources from the literature using the correct Harvard citation style.
Your essay task is summarised as follows:
Individually, with reference to a familiar organisation, use Kotter’s (2014) accelerate framework (2014) that outlines eight steps in managing and delivering change. See: https://www.kotterinc.com/research-and-perspectives/8-steps-accelerating-change-ebook/Links to an external site.
Refer to this framework using the eight steps and apply it to two change initiatives – one that worked well and one that did not work so well. The change experiences could either be simple or complex. Next, contrast and evaluate the differences between the two change experiences.
It is recommended that you use the following or a similar structure for the report:
Introduction – briefly set the scene – organisations or industry involved in the evaluation (approximately 50 words)
Evaluation of the two different change initiatives (approximately 550 words)
Use subheading for each titles.
