Nursing Informaticist

You take on the role of a nursing informaticist currently employed with a leading software vendor to manage a healthcare information technology project being implemented at the fictional Oak Township Medical Center. Each step in the Pre-Assessment mirrors a step that a project manager would take in creating a complete project plan. As with a project plan in a professional setting, some of your deliverables will be contained in common documentation, such as word processing document, while other aspects will be created and delivered in a project management software file.
Step 1: Project Charter
Develop a project charter for the Oak Township Medical Center Case Study’s Project Plan. The charter should be the first 3-4 pages of your MS Word document and should include the following:
• Project mission
• Problem statement
• Project objectives
• Project scope
• Deliverables- a defined product produced as part of the project
• Milestones within the project
• Assumptions
• List of key stakeholders
• Project risks

Part 2: Breakdown Structure (WBS)
Develop a work breakdown structure (WBS) diagram. In the next 2-3 pages of your Word document, develop a WBS diagram that includes the following:
• At least five high-level deliverables that you must accomplish in order to complete the Oak Township Medical Center project.
• A list of relevant tasks and subtasks that you must accomplish in order to complete the Oak Township Medical Center project.
Following your WBS diagram, respond to these questions:
• Explain the advantages and disadvantages of including too much detail and too little detail in a WBS.
• Explain why you chose your format for the WBS.

Step 3: Project Plan Schedule
For this step, you demonstrate your proficiency in utilizing project management software to schedule and manage a project in a ProjectLibre project schedule. Create a new project plan file in ProjectLibre for the Oak Township Medical Center Case Study. Develop a final project schedule in which you complete the following:
• Identify activities and tasks.
• Sequence the project activities.
• Estimate and assign durations for each task.
• Establish relationships and dependencies between the tasks, including lead and lag time.
• Identify necessary resources.
• Assign and level resources.

Part 4: Analysis and Closeout
Continuing in your MS Word document, respond to the following in 6-7 pages:
• Justify how the tasks and their dependencies were determined to create the project schedule.
• Identify three potential ways that this project could experience uncontrolled changes to project scope, and describe how you would mitigate or prevent these potential types of expansion.
• Describe where and how you would apply principles of monitoring and controlling to adjust the plan in terms of cost, scope, and time (i.e., the triple constraint).
• Explain how you would communicate modifications to key stakeholders. Provide a rationale for your response.
• Evaluate best practices for preparing for a project closeout.
• Explain which of these best practices is the most important component of closing out this project. Be specific and provide examples.
• Describe strategies for obtaining meaningful feedback from all stakeholders in the project. Be specific and provide examples.
