- Open the [your initials] PP E5-1.xlsx workbook completed in Pause & Practice 5-1. Because the workbook includes links, you will see a security warning or a message box.
- Click Update in the message box or click Enable Content in the warning bar.
- Save the workbook as [your initials] PP E5-2.
- Build a custom format.
- Click the FormatCodes sheet tab. You will modify the checklist codes to display “PVR” followed by a four-digit number.
- Select cells A5:A16.
- Click the Number launcher [Home tab, Number group] to open the Format Cells dialog box.
- Click Custom as the Category on the Number tab.
- Select the 0 code, a single zero in the list. You will build your code starting from this.
- Click the Type box and type 000 so that the code is four zeros. The Sample displays 0001.
- Click in front of the first zero and type PVR and press the Spacebar. The Sample box updates to include the text prefix (Figure 5-35).
- Click OK. The formulas include the prefix and insignificant zeros as needed.
- Enter data using a custom format.
- Select cell A16, type 12, and press Tab.
- Type Cooking pan set, press Tab, type 1, and press Enter.
- Assign the Geography data type.
- Click the DataTypes sheet tab. Notice that Tennessee and Virginia are spelled incorrectly.
- Select cells A2:A11.
- Click the Geography button [Data tab, Data Types group]. You may see an expanded set of data types or only two or three available types based on your Excel version (Figure 5-36).
- Get data from a data type cell.
- Select cells A2:A11.
- Format the cells as an Excel table using White, Table Style Light 1. The table does not have headers.
- Select cell A3 and click the Add Column button. The Insert Data button becomes the Add Column button when the cells are formatted as a table.
- Choose Median household income in the field list. The linked data displays for the column.
- Select cell A5 and click the Add Column button. You can select any cell in column A to add a new column of data to the table.
- Choose Persons per household. (Figure 5-38).

- Edit the label in cell B2 to Median household income.
- Edit the label in cell C2 to Persons per household.

- Select cell A2.
- Type State.
- Select cells B2:C2 and click the Wrap Text button [Home tab, Alignment group].
- Select columns A:C and set column width to 12.
- Select cells A2:C2 and center align them.
- Save and close the workbook (Figure 5-39).
