Discussion Prompt/Question:
There has been a national discussion about inmates being housed in unique units which all can amount to added punishment during incarceration. President Obama first asked for a review and oversight several years back and the issue is still being monitored closely. Correctional administrators found it difficult to explain the importance of administrative detention, disciplinary segregation, Special Management Units (SMU’s) and other forms of segregated inmate housing. A few courts got involved. What’s your take on the discussion?
