Assignment Description:
You will respond to each of the following prompts with a minimum of 250 words of prose per prompt. Each will be graded based on the coherence of its ideas, the mechanical quality of its prose, the effectiveness of its style, and its adherence to the assignment criteria. MLA formatting requires the use of Times New Roman font, size twelve, with one-inch margins. You should construct your exam in formal, academic prose. You should not include any secondary sources on the exams, including library resources, academic sources derived from Google scholar, Wikipedia, study guides, or any other outside research. You must, however, incorporate quotations from both the course readings and the films in response to each prompt.

3.) Appropriate citations of primary texts and films
Grading Criteria:
A successful exam will:
1) Respond to each prompt with at least two pages of academic prose
2) Respond to all parts of the prompt
3) Select and include relevant quotations from appropriate texts
4) Cite any quotations with appropriate in-text citations in the MLA style
5) Demonstrate clear evidence of deep engagement with the primary texts
6) Demonstrate clear evidence of revisions

1.) How is ideology defined in our readings and podcasts? What is the function of ideology in contemporary popular culture and cinema? What is the role of ideology in sports today?
2.) How do Shoeless Joe and Field of Dreams engage in nostalgia? Despite their shared basic narrative, do they engage in the notion of nostalgia in different ways? If so, how? To what extent, if at all, do the novel or the film reify notions of the American Dream? What other aspects of predominant ideology are prevalent in the novel and the film?
