Cybercrime and Computer Forensics

Objective: The objective of this paper is to demonstrate your ability to advise an entity (the organization you work for, a legal authority, or a governmental representative) on what constitutes a cybercrime locally and/or internationally, the reasons and ability to successfully prosecute the crime, and guidance on the specific steps at a high level.
In a corporate setting, “Security” means protecting an organization from threats. For Cybersecurity, these are threats that manifest through cyberspace, and for Enterprise Security these are mostly physical threats. In the readings on Cybercrime so far, we have studied some legal statutes relating to the prosecution of cyber and computer crimes.

Instructions: Select one of the legal statutes discussed throughout class and discus the following in 5 pages or less:

  1. A comparison of the US and international equivalents
  2. The specific cybercrime that it targets.
  3. Any subcultures that may have directly or indirectly supported or encouraged this crime.
  4. What the consequences could be if this crime were to materialize in an organization.
  5. A summary of the steps that the security professional the organization they work for can take to mitigate the risk posed by the possibility of this crime.
Each of the aforementioned points will carry an approximate weight of 20% towards the final grade of the paper.

Format – The paper should be presented in academic or business style which features an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. If writing in academic style, proper citations are required.
50% or more of your citations should be academic papers, journals, articles or books no more than five years old.
It is acceptable to illustrate your points with the use of table and figures, either constructed originally or adopted, and with proper credits or citation.
The presentation should be APA version 7 and therefore, at the minimum, a 12-point font size, double spaced document is required.
Your submission should be your own independent, individual, and original work. Plagiarism will be penalized according to university policies.
You should present your ideas as succinctly as possible in proper grammar, style, and diction, and the expectation in length is about 5 pages.
At the conclusion of your work, turn in a Microsoft Word (.docx) or Adobe (.pdf) file, properly spell-checked and proofread.
