Procedural Writing: The Soup Exercise

The Scenario

Your friend texts you the soup recipe on the next page . The soup sounds great, but you have trouble following the recipe because text messages aren’t the best format for instructional writing. You have two jobs.

1 .Research online and find examples of recipes you consider easy-to-follow. Link to 5 example recipes and summarize what these recipes have in common (in terms of both format and content).

2 .Rewrite your friend’s soup recipe in a format that would make it easier to follow in the future. Imagine trying to follow the procedure as you write .Don’t worry about adding images or creating fancy layouts, but please do give it a descriptive title.

Question 2

The most important problem facing young people today.

*Include an introductory paragraph consisting of your thesis statement and well-developed lead-in sentences, at least three or four body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.

*No additional/secondary/outside sources permitted. This is not a research essay.

*The essay must be at least 500 words

*Your essay will be evaluated according to how effectively you have

–addressed the topic as it is written,

–established a clear thesis or main idea,

–developed your thesis logically and in sufficient detail,

–used well-formed sentences and paragraphs,

–used well-formed standard practices in spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar.
