STREAMING LIVE AND THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE
PRELIMINARIES: Our discussion this week has two parts and are related to chapters 35 and 36. Do both parts. There is also the usual EXPLORE list under the topic. Be sure to use that instead of any random googling for answers–you are required to use the class text each week and at least one of the EXPLORE-listed websites. HINT: The Explore list normally suggests what page numbers to focus on. ANOTHER HINT: If using the eBook purchased via our bookstore, when you just click on the on-screen page, the page number appears on the lower left of the screen. Jot it down.
TOPIC: Please respond to both of the following, using the class text and sources under the Explore heading as the basis of your response:
- STREAM AND SCREAM: Write for one minute using the stream of consciousness writing method (Note: You may also type it offline and copy it within this discussion thread). Describe your experience and your reaction to what you wrote. Of the samples of the stream of consciousness technique given in this week’s chapters (see pages listed under EXPLORE), determine which of those streaming styles you prefer and explain the reasons why.
- Of the various authors, artists, and musicians who participated in the Harlem Renaissance, identify the person whose autograph you would most want (or some similar gesture of admiration), and explain the reasons why. Provide one example that illustrates the reason why you selected the person that you did. (The example–specific lines in a poem; specific song; specific work; etc).
