Verbal Discussion

Question 1

For the chemical Beryllium, prepare a 10 minute verbal discussion (up to 5 Powerpoint slides may be used) for a class round table. Questions will be asked after your presentation. Please review the literature and the ATSDR Tox Profile and summarize the following:

1) What are the available MRL values (inhalation, dermal, ingestion as applicable – there may not be an MRL for each route)?

2) How were the MRL values derived?

3) What are health end points of concern and what end points were the MRL values based on?

4) Explain why you agree or disagree with the proposed MRL value?

5) What other toxicological tests are needed to more fully evaluate the chemical?

6) Would you characterize this chemical as highly toxic, moderately toxic, or only slightly toxic? Feel free to use additional material beyond the ATSDR tox profile as needed.

Question 2

How have toxic chemicals in our environment affected the health of all living things as well as the stability of the environment around us? Is there any justification of the use and dumping of these toxic chemicals into our environment? Is” what is good for business” always good for us”?
